Councilman Randy Purvis is writing off Buddy Gilmore, Tom Gallagher and four others in the mayor’s race.
“The contenders are now down to three: Skorman, Bahr and Bach,” Purvis wrote in his blog after Tuesday’s mayoral forum at the Fine Arts Center.
“Of the three, Bach is hanging on for dear life. I just do not see much of an ability in Bach to connect with the voter. He may have some endorsements, but they are from people he has known for a long time,” Purvis said.
“Skorman and Bahr have that ability to connect, which is why I expect them to lead the ballot by a significant margin over the remaining seven,” he added.
What Bahr has is $200,000 of his own developer money. What Purvis doesn’t seem to realize is that it’s developers like Bahr who have managed to designate land as ‘blighted’ getting taxpayer money to build a mall we don’t need, while Chapel Hills Malls falls into bankruptcy.
Bahr is the wrong choice for our fair city. Lets not elect a developer as our first strong mayor!
WOW LEO…Soooo….first off you don’t believe in the rewards of capitalism and free enterprise? Bahr shouldn’t put his money where his mouth is?
What tax dollars are going towards a mall? Or do you just make erroneous frivolous claims on websites?
Should government pick winners and losers??? If another mall can longer compete we should prop them up instead of letting them stand or fall on their own merits?
Get your facts straight, Bahr isnt even a developer!
So Leo–what campaign do you work for?
Facts? Really?
Bahr owns Challenger Homes. Look it up. He’s a developer. He has 12 active communities, 10 of which are east of Powers or north of Woodmen Rd. That’s called urban sprawl, and it’s not what’s best for Colorado Springs. Another fact.
Copper Ridge. Fact: Tax dollars that would have otherwise gone to help actual blighted areas of town needing urban renewal, like S. Academy will now go to help extend Powers Blvd. to help make a mall feasible. A mall we don’t need, as evidenced by the bankruptcy of Chapel Hills Mall. Look at yesterday’s Gazette for a HUGE article about this very subject. Here’s the link: http://www.gazette.com/articles/copper-113766-county-ridge.html
I work for no campaign. I just believe a developer in the mayor’s chair is a bad decision for our community. And I don’t believe Mr. Bahr will be able to separate his very strong ties to developers to make the visionary and tough decisions needed to get us out of our reliance upon growth for sustainability. Developers will never consider alternatives to growth–as without growth, they’re broke.
Hey Bob, looks like Leo just set you straight.
I agree, the last thing we need is a strong Mayor/Developer the next 4 years.
Skorman is the clear choice for leadership.
I totally disagree that Brian Bahr will live under the thumb of the developers. What I do have a problem with is that Richard Skorman took campaign funds from The Gill Corporation, which after having been a Councilman for years should have known better and the fact that our former Mayor works with the Gill Foundation and should have known better. I find it very interesting that it has been hushed up. That alone should take Skorman out of the race.
Bahr is highly qualified for the job having the education, a highly successful business that he built from the ground up and certainly will have a leg up on the problems causing all of us grief in the City/County trying to navigate the system.
Vot for Brian Bahr! He’s far and away the best choice..
