Businessman Richard Skorman and homebuilder Brian Bahr are the frontrunners in the race for mayor, according to a poll commissioned by Bahr’s campaign.
The results of the poll could not be independently verified, and the word on the street is that other polls show Councilman Tom Gallagher or commercial real estate broker Steve Bach in second place.
Bahr’s campaign said it paid for an automated telephone poll that captured nearly 3,000 active registered voters “who indicated they planned to vote” in the April 5 municipal election.
The poll was conducted over six days with equal weighting across every ZIP code in the city.
Respondents were asked who they would support for mayor.
According to Bahr’s campaign:
Skorman got 25 percent
Bahr got 21 percent
Gallagher got 14 percent
Bach got 13 percent
“No other candidate was above 5 percent,” Bahr’s campaign said in a press release.
If none of the candidates win by a majority April 5, the two top voter-getters will face off in a run-off in June.
“It appears that Brian Bahr and Richard Skorman are positioned to face each other in the run-off,” Gabe Joseph, of Virginia-based ccAdvertising, which conducted the poll, is quoted as saying.
This poll was commissioned by the Bahr campaign, but was conducted by an independent, third party organization. If other campaigns have polling… they should release the results. I would severely question any polling that took place prior to the Gazette’s endorsement–as that endorsement TOTALLY changed this race. And in case the Bahr campaign has forgotten, and I’m sure they haven’t, it was Steve Bach who received the Gazette’s coveted endorsement. And let’s not forget Mr. Bach also received an endorsement from The Chamber, The Realtor’s Association, Larry Liston, Lorne Kramer, and Pikes Peak Apartment Association–among others. Those impressive endorsements speak a lot louder than a poll conducted by any particular campaign.
He has to be pretty desperate to release a poll showing he is in second place as a way to gain credibility. And yes, I have decided for Bach.
Leo: according to the press release I read, it looks like the poll took place over a week, the same week as Bach was endorsed by the Gazette and the Chamber. Seems to me that this would be (because of the extra free press) when Mr. Bach would be at his highest point.
Endorsements didn’t mean much last election cycle, just look at the results. I favor Brian Bahr because I believe I can trust him to do what’s right for our city. And “word on the street” really? How can anyone with a brain dispute over 3,000 respondents to a poll equally weighted across all the zip codes in a city. Am I missing something?
Ronnie,
Anyone with a brain? Gee, what a way to start my morning!
Look, I’m just writing what I’m hearing. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Daniel–thanks for siding with decency and civility. Name calling has no place in civil discourse.
The “anyone with a brain” comment was tongue in cheek Daniel. I am not faulting your reporting as much as I am confused how this poll is in dispute. I imagine we will see what happens when the ballots come back.
Jillsy,
Thank you for the kind words. Too often people forget to treat each other with a little more respect. I guess growing up on a ranch with pretty strict parents taught me differently.
Ronnie,
Thanks for coming back and responding. You’re right: the real test is April 5.
