Pat Boone, a 1950s American icon and social conservative, is wading into local politics.
Boone recorded a robo call for mayoral candidate Brian Bahr. Click here for the message.
“Hello, my friend. This is Pat Boone. Yeah, that Pat Boone, the ‘Love Letters In The Sand Guy,’” Boone says in the recorded message.
“I’m still singing at concerts, but today, I’m singing the praises of Brian Bahr,” he says.
“Like you, I love Colorado Springs, and I know our city needs a strong mayor like Brian Bahr, who will stand for a strong economy, for bold competition, investing in our future and a return to commonsense conservative principles,” he says.
“Brian Bahr has a visioin for Colorado Springs where good jobs are plentiful, where city services are exceptional and where we invest in our youth for a bright future,” he says.
Boone encourages voters to support Bahr and contributed to his campaign and then “cast your vote” for Bahr when they get their ballot in the mail.
“God bless you,” he says.
Kyle Fisk, Bahr’s campaign manager, said the Bahr campaign is “honored” to have Boone’s support.
“As a business owner and social conservative, Mr. Boone recognized Brian Bahr and his bold vision and practical plan as the best choice for Mayor of Colorado Springs,” he said in an e-mail.
You’re Serious? Good God, and to think that conservatives hate out of state interests interfering with local issues. Sounds hypocritical to me
Pat Boone has become a tool of the far right and religious whacko’s.
ignore him.
Unfortunately, I received one of the pre-recorded Pat Boone calls. I was not in the mood to listen past the “our city” (what gall), hung up, then wondered how my phone number was available to this organization.
If that doesn’t cause him to lose the election, what else will?
I listened to the call and liked the endorsement from Pat. He is a solid Christian Conservative, but not one that turns off people. I think Brian Bahr has run a good campaign. We have many good candidates for Mayor. Brian has run a very positive campaign with his one minute ads on radio and his web page that he has run way before others joined in the contest. It will be interesting to see who wins. I like the family values of Bahr and his common sense approach. I think that the paper could have dug up a better picture of Pat Boone, but ‘oh well’.
Until we vote to NOT have election time calls on the ‘do not call list’, we will be receiving the Robo calls. A candidate that doesn’t take advantage of that privilege is not running a complete campaign.
I was leaning toward voting for Brian Bahr until I saw this.
I could never support anyone who Pat Boon supports. He’s done political ads in the past for other candidates which have been inflammatory and hateful.
Is there anyone running who is willing to say “no” to inflammatory rhetoric?
Maybe Pat should take a look at Bahr’s shoddy development on Gold Hill Mesa and see if he thinks someone with such bad taste should be mayor of our fine city……
The clash of colors and windows of all different sizes, out of kilter with the house are enough to make you sick to your stomach! At least they could have hired a visual designer to address the obvious.
The endorsement from Pat Boone does not bother me. He is a pretty cool guy. BUT, the Robo-calls get any candidate crossed off my list.
I do not vote for any candidate that has a robo-call to my house – Period!
Anyone remember those “Acne Statin” products Boone pitched back in the 70′s?
In 1978, Boone and Karr, Inc. (the product’s manufacturer) were found guilty of false advertising and ordered by the FTC to provide refunds to thousands of customers (then the stiffest penalty ever levied for a celebrity endorsement). The problem? The product, according to one critic, had “the same facial efficacy as shoe polish.”
Good Luck with Boones endorsement Bahr!
I, too, wondered how they got my cell number…especially since it is on the “Do Not Call” list! This certainly nixes any vote he may have gotten from me…
Completely ridiculous. As if Pat Boone understands the realities of this city, and as if he cares. It is not HIS city.
This makes Bahr stand out- in a bad way. He already seemed way too in bed with developers. Resorting to a pointless celebrity endorsement. Oh well, at least he made my choice much easier because I will not be voting for him!
I got the exact same exact pre-recorded message about another candidate the last campaign. This is a paid “spot” similar to what radio stations do when they have a several second airspot where a celebrity says, “…listen to (station call letters)”.
This isn’t a true endorsement by Pat Boone, it’s a paid promotion. For X number of $$ Pat (or a sound-alike) will record the name of any conservative candidate’s name into this same pre-recorded message. It makes people think that Pat Boone really endorses a candidate, but in reality it’s just a campaign tool paid for by the candidate.
More of the same I see. Let’s just keep on appealing to that 1950′s demographic… yeah, that’ll win you some votes. NOT.
And Pat, that’s not a good look for you. Maybe if you had a little less makeup on. But generally you look like an aging, sexually confused wanna be rockstar. Stick to your wholesome image because this one does not work for you at all. Really, it doesn’t.
I am working with the Bahr campaign and this wasn’t a “paid endorsement.” Pat Boone has several business interests in Colorado Springs and believes that Brian Bahr is the best candidate.
The truth of the matter is that Brian’s extensive business experience and the fact that his business grew during a tough economic environment is why people from every corner of the community are supporting him!

who the heck is pat boone???
Curious photo of Mr Boone there. I know he isn’t inclined to hang out in such places, but it sure LOOKs like Mr Bahr has collected the endorsement of a “master” from some leather bar in a big city.
Quick note on the “do not call” list. It doesn’t apply to political calls. I like many others wish it did. Could we get a do not mail list as well? I am tired of putting 3/4 of my mail in the trash.
What is the significance of Pat Boone to Colorado Springs?
