After the public hearing on the proposed 2012 budget on Thursday night, Mayor Steve Bach defended his plan to allocate a $1.5 million discretionary fund for his office.
His stance is the subject of today’s Quote of the Day.
“I guess it comes down to, ‘Can you trust a mayor to spend $1.5 million?’ If we can’t, we better get another mayor.”
Since it’s Friday, I’ll offer up a runner-up for Quote of the Day.
The source: It has to be the mayor again.
The mayor was talking about the council’s recent decisions about past-due stormwater fees and how they’ll affect revenue projections for next year.
The mayor couldn’t help but point out that the decisions were made in closed session, which violated the open-meetings law.
“Council just decided illegally, excuse me, apparently, allegedly, excuse me, according to (The Gazette) , council just decided we’re not going to collect all that money,” Bach said.
Strap this bozo onto a southbound railcar and get him the heck outa’ Dodge.
“Bozo” (?)
If I remember correctly – the votin’ folk said yes to a ‘strong mayor’
We got one.
He doing ‘strong-mayor things. Like making decisions.
What decisions to date would you find fault with?
If you read the last line carefully, the mayor noted the source of the allegations was the Gazette. Since Dan Chacon didn’t deny it, maybe the people need to be as skeptical if the G as they are of city politicians.
Besides, this ain’t Dodge and you’ll wait a long time for a railcar, if you even remember what it looks like.
not so fast,
The City Council sent out a news release in which they admitted making two decisions in closed executive session. The law requires decisions by a public body to be made in open session.

Do you read our stories before commenting?
Daniel,
Why change the subject? I referred to your quote from the Mayor in your blog above, not reports of city council
I’m not changing the subject. I’m actually zeroing in on it.
You wrote that “maybe people need to be as skeptical if (sic) the G as they are of city politicians” because we were the source of the allegations.
So, I provided you a link to the story so you could read that an attorney who is an expert in this arena and an organization that advocates for open government both said that the council’s actions violated the open-meetings act.
You can’t prove a negative: if there was no decision to act, how could it be recorded in session minutes? Back to the Blog topic, even Bach was telling you he wasn’t there either.
OK, my friend, I’m pulling out a white flag. Peace.
No need to insult my reading ability by referring to other articles. If I wanted to comment on them, I would confine them there, not here.
Based on your initial comment, it seemed like you hadn’t read the story. I’m not trying to insult your reading ability. I’m just trying to make sure you have all the information.
