The mayor’s office has been under fire in recent weeks for its social media presence — or lack thereof even after hiring a $56,000-a-year communications specialist with supposed savvy social media skills.
The mayor’s office has failed to respond to questions via Twitter and even unfollowed a Twitter user with a large following in Colorado Springs.
During a Thursday press conference, Mayor Steve Bach promised to get better at social media.
In the meantime, Gazette columnist Barry Noreen offered this priceless nugget:
“There’s no truth to the rumor that Mayor Bach has added a Navajo smoke signal expert to his social media team,” Noreen said.
HOLY COW< the MAYOR sure knows how to waste money. I mean $56,000 a year for someone which supposedly COMMUNICATION SKILLS??? WTF… Whats wrong with the MAYOR speaking for himself, he gets $96,000 a year RIGHT?? And he can't communicate.??? He surely knows how to throw money around for SAY WHAT????
Cookie, chill out. Seriously.
Most major CEOs don’t write on their company’s Facebook wall. The President of the United States isn’t personally responding to Tweets. Heck, Tim Tebow barely responds to Tweets. Notice a pattern? The people who actually have to get stuff done don’t have time to dink around on the internet and respond to every little whim that hits them.
A bit of constructive criticism: your post is atrocious. Apparently, you were so angry that you just hammered away at the keyboard and didn’t care to look at the quality of what you were saying. I think it would go a long way if you took the time to be more lucid – and less berserker – with your words.
As an elected official, I find it a wonderful tool to reach out to people thru social media. It gives me the opportunity to educate, explain positions, ask for feedback, connect with staff, etc. I make the time to respond to all constituents as quickly as I can, I do it myself and not with taxpayers money, without support from the communications dept, and because I am one heck a multiple tasker, I do it AND the million other responsibilities I have.

If this is true Lisa then could you please answer why you insisted that the only voice for the military community be kicked off of the Memorial Hospital Task Force?
According to the Gazette and Dr. Steinbruner it was because of a long standing personal feud you have with his family and had nothing to do with the task force. I am asking completely respectfully is this true Lisa?
http://www.gazette.com/articles/force-125560-task-memorial.html
We have been asking this since you did this unfortunate silencing and have never received an answer. In the spirit of the transparency you promote, you say that you respond to all constituents and because you are”one heck a multiple tasker” perhaps you can now answer our question:
“Why you are endangering the health and welfare of the families of the military community in what looks like a personal vendetta with our only health care representative to the city?”
Lisa it would be great if you could answer the question without calling us all “idiots” like last time we asked you the question.
Wow, Lisa. I’m so impressed that you are a “multiple” tasker. Now if you could only show up to Council meetings on time.
Every single member of the task force appointed with the exception of the 2 gentlemen from the Regional Leadership Committee was appointed by Jan Martin without any public process of announcement, accepting of resumes, and discussion with fellow council members. Board members of the Memorial Health System, some who have volunteered for years and are extremely knowledgeable of that system was purposefully left off. As a citizen and an elected official I expect educated, non agenda driven, truthful, and committed individuals on a Council appointed task force. If I requested someone to be removed because I felt they did not meet the requirements citizens deserve for task force representation and reporting, believe I had reasons that could be substantiated enough to have 8 other Councilmembers to agree. Believe me getting all of Council to agree is not an easy sell. So….what you should be criticizing is what I was in the lack of memorial board members, lack of proper appointment process, and very biased member appointment. There was no one on task force representing patients and Drunk Cop. We are a community filled with military who also are physicians and was waiting to step up and fill that slot. It was the task force who elected to not replace the justly removed member. Your anger and accusations are misdirected.
Lisa, mam in 20 years living in district 3 I have never seen an elected official reach out and talk to citizens like you do. I am one of your Facebook friends and appreciate you asking us citizens what we think. Your never gonna please all these haters. Thank you for putting up with all the crap.
Lisa, your humility is astounding. In fact, it is surpassed only by your grammar and spelling. Why don’t you spend a little less time trolling online articles and more time doing your job?
Lisa
I did not realize that is was a unanimous decision by all nine members of the city council to force Dr Stienburner off of the Memorial Task Force, thank you for clearing this matter up for me and the Gazette. I apologize to you for thinking that it was a personal vendetta.
I do however think the city council owes it to the community to put fourth the evidence of why they think that this practicing ER Physician is too incompetent to serve on the task force but is competent enough to be an ER Doctor at Memorial. This is very confusing and concerning to me in that an elder member of my family has had to use the ER department twice in the last month. I now know to request another ER doc if Dr. Stienburner is the attending physician.
Thank you for your transparency into this matter, information and I hope for the sake of the community the City Council will explain their severe concerns with this inept practicing physician.
Anyhow just a few questions Lisa:
You said:
1.”I expect educated, non agenda driven, truthful, and committed individuals on a Council appointed task force.”
So are you saying that in your and the entire city council’s opinion Dr. Stienbruner does not have the intellectual ability to properly represent his career field to the city council. He is not honest enough and was not committed enough to be on the committee. Because of the council’s low opinions of the Doctor’s abilities the entire city council unanimously thought our military community would be better off with no representation at all on the Memorial Hospital Task Force rather than have his inexperience. I have a BIG problem with the council with that and demand an explanation from the council.
You also said:
2. “I requested someone to be removed because I felt they did not meet the requirements citizens deserve for task force representation and reporting.”
What requirements did Dr. Stienburner not meet that were so severe that you and the council felt that he had to be removed as the only Military Tri-Care voice on the committee? If his education, skillets and reasoning are not adequate enough to represent the military in such a small role doesn’t it scare you to think that he makes life and death decisions every day for people that are critically injured? I think the council should come forward with their information so this physician can be properly disciplined and evaluated to determine if he should still be practicing medicine.
I have no anger, only sadness that a person that is considered by the entire city council to be so incompetent is still allowed to be an ER doctor at Memorial. I hope for the community’s sake that the council will put this evidence on his incompetence forward so his peers can rightfully judge him too. I am also sad that the largest Tri-Care facility west of the Mississippi had to loose its only military voice to the council because of this doctors low intellectual abilities, dis-honesty and lack of commitment.
Again, this community is filled with many military personnel and many who are military physicians. Im certain someone else could have been asked to be placed on task force. Why a replacement was not sought, I do not know. Again, the Memorial Health Board members who have great institutional and legal knowledge were not asked to sit on task force, a representative of patients was not placed on task force. These are all questions that should have been answered when the task force was formed and conducting its business. Its over now. What is important is that the negotiating team being led by City attorney, Chris Melcher, gets the best legal representation who specializes in these kinds of transactions and secures everything promised to this community by the bidder. What will be interesting to see is who is on that negotiating team. Chris Melcher has full appointment and hiring capabilities. Merv Bennet and Brandy Williams on Council will be our liaisons informing us what is happening with the negotiations. An article by Andrew Winneke was written on Friday identifying some of the topics Council wants to make sure is addressed in negotiations, you can see military and Tri-Care is one of them. What I found particularly interesting at the meeting was Jan Martin mentioning that she has received 2 legal opinions that because this is a lease that a vote would NOT have to come back to the community.
@Saul and Louise, please forgive the grammatical errors. Its a result of a 12 hr day, carpooling 4 kids to 2 schools, having 5 scheduled meetings, cooking 2 meals, and now answering to a constituent. Ill try to do better for you. @Stanley. Thank you.
I do not check comments on stories regularly. I can be reached directly at lczelatdko@springsgov.com for questions, comments, etc. Thank you.
So Lisa I guess you are going to completely ignore my questions and do political double talk. Nice try to sweep the issue under the carpet though.
I prefer to talk about this in the open so we can both be transparent in this important discussion about the city council unanimously deciding to disenfranchise the military community because Dr. Stienburner is unfit for service.
Here are the questions again:
1. For what reasons did the entire city council’s decide that Dr. Stienbruner does not have the intellectual ability and skill sets to properly represent his career field to the city council. The hospital and public should be notified of the facts of this decision by the council because the ability of this ER doc to properly preform the duties of his profession is in such great question by the council.
2. For what reasons did the city council think he is not “honest enough” and “committed enough” to be on the committee?
3. Why did the entire city council “unanimously” decide that the military community was better off with no representation at rather than his representation?
3. In the name of transparency why are you avoiding my questions?
Lisa, in order for you to answer a constituent, you have to actually answer the questions.
