The city of Colorado Springs is planning a USOC Opening Day Celebration in downtown Colorado Springs on July 27.
The outdoor celebration is part of the mayor’s Spirit of the Springs initiative.
“I’m proud to say that the city of Colorado Springs is the only city at this point who has permission from NBC to broadcast the opening celebration of the Olympics in London…Since we have the USOC headquarters here, we think we should celebrate that every chance that we get,” Donna Nelson, the mayor’s economic vitality specialist, told the City Council on Monday.
Runner-up for Quote of the Day:
“I hope it’s extra large,” City Council President Scott Hente said after Mayor Steve Bach gave him a jacket with a Spirit of the Springs insignia.
If NBC gave us the rights to broadcast opening day, whatever that means, dontcha think the USOC would let us use their logo in exchange for the millions we were forced to give them?
We have swimming pools for the kids shut down. We cant afford to water the parks and all the trees and grass is dying. We cant afford bus services for the poor. We cant afford to have street lights. But we can afford millions of dollars to give to a non-profit. ALL of these problems were cause by the council’s love affair with the USOC.
Freethinkers are upset about anyone that has the audacity to think differently than they do and want separation of the state and non-profits. Yet they have no problem with the unholy slobbering love affair between the city council and their god the USOC.
Have atheists ever done anything positive for the human soul? Has the USOC ever done anything for even a single kid in COS other than take their swimming pools away?
Freethinkers are about as conducive to free thought as the city council is to relevancy and intelligence.
Your drunken imaginings cause you to repeat lies and distortions. Look up past/current city budgets online and show us where tax money was ‘given’ to the USOC from other departments and enterprises like Parks & Rec/Utilities. You will not find millions of taxpayer $$ to nonprofits because those are private-investor bond commitments..
What do freethinkers or atheists have to do with this? I see nothing in the article that even mentions them, let alone blame them for the USOC debacle.
My, what an artfully constructed strawman you appear to have built for yourself, here. Have fun playing with it.
From the article:
“Colorado Springs taxpayers–They’re responsible for covering the millions the city will borrow to provide new USOC facilities.
The cost will be $1.7 million in the first year and will increase 2 percent annually for 30 years. And while last year’s deal made LandCo responsible for $16 million in upgrades to the USOC’s training center, that responsibility will now fall to the city and private donors.”

You know notso it would help if you post a link to news articles rather than rely on whats in your head.
Aggraveted, I was just pointing out the discrepancy of the freethinkers thought patterns.
It amazes me how wimpy some people are to get so offended at other people who have the audacity to think differently that they do.
The freethinkers and atheists get so offended in these matters that they have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on billboards to try to silence the free thought of others.
Churches spend money on the poor and needy, freethinkers and atheists spend money on trying to silence free thought.
Your quote was not from city open records, but from the Gazette. The voices in your own head made you miss the conditions: “city will borrow”, “Landco Responsible” and “private donors” which is the same as selling capitol construction bonds instead of tapping taxpayer dollars. Don’t go any further without considering city budgets at their SOURCE: http://www.springsgov.com.
“The freethinkers and atheists get so offended in these matters that they have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on billboards to try to silence the free thought of others. ”
Again, what has that got to do with the USOC opening? Even if we grant the stereotypical overgeneralization that you employ, how is that germane to this article at all?
Seems more like your own personal vendetta than any kind of rational observation.
Yes notso you are right that the:
“city will borrow to provide new USOC facilities.”
You forgot the end of the sentence about lanco which is:
“that responsibility will now fall to the city and private donors’
and:
“Colorado Springs taxpayers–They’re responsible for covering the millions the city will borrow.”

The link you provided though is a homepage to a generic website, not very informative.
I guess that like the freethinkers you only get to think what they demand you to think or you get kicked out of their religion of hate of non believers in non-belief.
This is all much too silly to me. Just allow people to think what they want to think and not tell them what they should think. In other words mind your own chickens.
Without independent agreement, you show a willingness to think only what Rich Laden & the G’s want you to think. You’re too lazy to drill past the City’s official (not ‘generic’) front page to find the budget. Since you are suspicious of being directed to the exact page, I ‘just allow(ed you) to think what (you) want to think and not tell (you) what (you) should think. No wonder it’s too silly for you.
Before his premature conclusion that city taxpayers MIGHT be stuck, Laden prefaced the article with “the organization does business worldwide and pumps millions into the local economy annually. You and other isolationists must also ignore the economic benefit that Fort Carson, Pete Field, CSOC, and the USAFA bring to local taxpayers. Consider the $1.7million an investment that returns 100-fold, not a liability.
[...] downtown leaders about upcoming planned activities, including the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Fan Fest, Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies watch party and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge,” the city said in a press [...]
