This morning, Freedom Honda announced a contest to award a park a $10,000 makeover.
To participate, you have to “like” Freedom Honda on Facebook.
You also have to provide your email address, prompting the following question to Amy Triandiflou of Vladimir Jones, the local public relations and advertising agency handling media questions for the dealership:
Will the email addresses that people provide to Freedom Honda be used for advertising purposes?
Right now, it’s unclear.
In fact, at this point, it’s still unclear.
Here’s the email exchange between myself and Triandiflou:
2:43 p.m.
Amy,
I’m still waiting for an answer on what Freedom Honda plans to do with the email addresses of people who participate in the contest.
Thanks.
Daniel

Right now, our plans are simply to share information with voters on the winning park.
4:51 p.m.
Right now? To me, that means that you’re leaving it open that Freedom Honda could decide to use that information for advertising purposes.
5:00 p.m.
At this time, our plan is to email participants on who’s won the contest. We are thrilled with all the interest!
5:10 p.m.
Amy,
“Right now” and “at this time” leaves it wide open, so I feel it’s my responsibility to make people aware of that.

The official rules for the sweepstakes are posted and information on entries are included in the rules. Again – we are thrilled with all the interest and right now our plan is to email participants once we have a winner.
Daniel-
Normally, I wouldnt engage in comment dialogue, but, i have to tell you that I am surprised you felt this to be newsworthy enough to post. For disclosure–I work with Amy at VJ and am a partner in the agency. My question to you is–why do you say she hasnt answered your question? She clearly states the extent of the plan that currently exists for the use of the email addresses–which is to notify people of the winner. Your assumption is that there is some grand plan for the emails that isnt being shared. But in truth, that is the extent of their plan right now. You didnt ask “could they be used for another purpose.” Thats a different question. And that is a question answered by rules of the contest, which people agree to when they enter. And which are pretty standard across any contest of this nature. Yes, they can be used for another purpose. But that doesn’t mean that there is any plan to do so currently, because there simply isn’t. End of story. Not sure how much more clear cut of an answer we can provide for you.
We greatly appreciate the coverage you provided the event, and we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. However, we cant provide an answer that is either inaccurate or irresponsible simply because you don’t like the answer that was provided.
Joe,
Thanks for taking the time to comment and for answering the question.
So nice to be out of the media business frenzy. Nice back and forth to all of you. Appropriate on each side.
While the contest is a great idea, Vlad Jones is the biggest bunch of hacks I’ve ever worked with. All hype, very little substance…..
Get ready for some wild photos for the congregation/greg/home… Great txts begging for action and private tapes of kit trying to raise some money for herself
