A Colorado Springs high school wrestling team that won the State 5A wrestling team championship got a visit from Mayor Steve Bach today.
The mayor presented Pine Creek High School’s wrestling team with a Spirit of the Springs “Celebrate” Award.
“We appreciate the dedication and discipline it takes to compete and succeed in the sport of wrestling,” Bach said in a statement. “We hope such students as these can become tomorrow’s City leaders.”
Pine Creek has a lot to celebrate.
The state title is the school’s first in any sport since the school opened in 1998.
“The Eagles were led by 106-pound champion Trenton Watson, a freshman, and had eight wrestlers finish in the top six to defeat second place team Pomona,” the city said in a press release.
The Spirit of the Springs “Celebrate” Award “recognizes a noteworthy achievement which has brought great honor and pride to the City of Colorado Springs or has been distinguished at a state, national or international level,” the city said.
