Mayor Steve Bach said he’s not “totally comfortable” with surveillance cameras.
But he said other cities have had successes with the cameras, prompting the Police Department to bring forward a recommendation to the City Council.
“We’re making a recommendation to try this,” the mayor said Tuesday. “I hope council will agree to give it a try.”
Mayor Bach, that uncomfortable feeling you are sensing is common decency. Please reconsider spending this money on a fix eye. We live downtown, not a mall. All of the citizens that live here in the downtown area should have been on this board. We don’t want the cameras. Remember, although they might be legal, there’s also no law that says we have to use them! #NoSpringsCameras
WE set the “mood” of the city with our laws and rules. This is a “bad-mood” maker. Please reconsider your support for this proposal!
Nobody is going to go downtown any more then they do now, with or without the cameras. Downtown is dead its like a ghost town expect for the saloons.

Please bring back the red light cameras and the van-based speed radar enforcement tools instead! Those actually work (and did here as well) and they could pay for themselves through the scofflaws that endanger others with their 4000 pound cars. Given that they actually were working here, we can only assume you got rid of them because either you got a ticket or one of your big money supporters did. Bring those back because they could generate enough money to cover their operation and enough to pay for a couple more real police officers to address issues downtown!
what does “”other cities police have had success with the camers”…mean?
Mr. Rapko since you seem to be the mouthpiece for the whole DTA area, maybe you could come up with a plan to stop the evening violence without having to add more police. Seems the only solution for people is more law enforcement albeit with a reduced tax rate.
Face it, the DTA is slowly chocking itself to death by forcing businesses out and refusing to deal with the obvious problems. Either be a part of the solution or step to the side and watch.
Get2the point solution is take the bars out of downtown You won’t have no need even for the police we do have on staff.
Not only that but we have a so called mayor that can’t back up any of his decision with out well so and so is doing and has gotten good results so lets give it a try here..
Even the Muppets can respond better then that. LOL
Really

Before, the mayor said the police chief wanted to try the cameras. Now, he says the businesses wanted them. Also If anyone thinks it was the police chief was the one who came to the mayor to get rid of the red cameras that brought in $500,000 worth of revenue for the city and reduced accidents they’re crazy. Sounds as if this mayor blames other people for his decisions once they become unpopular.
citizen says: what does “”other cities police have had success with the camers”…mean?
It means that the people that supported the idea of installing them received kickbacks
