Mayor Steve Bach just issued the following statement about the $1.15 million separation agreement for former Memorial CEO Dr. Larry McEvoy.
“Greater oversight and tighter control of all City owned institutions is paramount. This kind of disastrous outcome must not be repeated in the future,” he said.
“Moving forward, we should have a transparent community dialogue, with appropriate checks and balances in determining the best governance model for all City owned institutions including Colorado Springs Utilities.”
Well said Mayor Bach, Well Said!
Is anyone sticking a gun to someone’s head and forcing them to pay McEvoy’s $1.15 Million? I would just tell McEvoy to take a hike.
yep but city council wants to lease so tell me who will have anysay from this great city council in who makes what and when someone leaves what they get? City council thinks the tax payers are all stupid and they know what best? why you think they want to up the vote in aug. to rid there hands of this diaster and move onto Drake power plant.
While I disagree with the higher than contracted settlement, the Mayor’s statement is like reading political buzzword bingo… Let’s just get every feel-good word in there – transparent, dialogue, checks and balances, governance model….
Bach says…“Moving forward, we should have a transparent community dialogue…” while in the mean time…the city is refusing to release McEvoy’s severance agreement, saying it is not covered by the Colorado Open Records Act. And, the new Memorial board will meet behind closed doors to review past minutes and legal matters.
Oh, the hypocrisy Mayor Bach.
Bach talks about transparncy, he dosen’t know what the word means. There has been nothing transparent about his administration.
For Dean’s comment about leasing the hospital. When that happens, the only thing the city has to worry about is the UCH makes their lease payments each year. Who they hire and fire is their responsibility and what they pay their employees. So lets get on with the lease and let what happen in the past die.
Colorado Springs Utilities doesn’t use the same governance model as Memorial Hospital. We report directly to the Utilities Board/City Council, who answers to the citizens of Colorado Springs. We are locally controlled by our citizen-owners.
Utility governance has been studied several times in past years, and the Utilities Policy Advisory Committee spend much of last year studying governance models and provided recommendations which the Utilities Board plans to start discussing publicly in June. – Mark @ Springs Utilities
The problem with telling McEvoy to “take a hike” is that the legal agreement is binding, and he would no doubt sue to enforce it.
So the question is: do we pay the $1.15 million, or the $1.15 million + his court costs + our court costs?
Seems to me it’s an easy decision.
You do not fool anyone Bach. Your words are code for you want all the power. You are a power monger political grandstander. You do not need to consolidate your hands on anything. We really need to get this guy out of office
RIGHT NOW is the time for the mayor and council to look into the contracts of the personnel of all city employees to see what other little golden nuggets are planted that will end up costing the taxpayers more than is usual and customary should any of them be terminated or leave on their own. DO IT NOW, before it blows yp in your faces again.
I thought Mayor Bach was for less governement, now I am hearing more control, more governance, more insight, more, more, more. Y’all voted for him.
