City Councilwoman Lisa Czelatdko thanked Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper for coming Colorado Springs to assess the Waldo Canyon fire.
She left the following message on his Facebook page.
Governor,
Colorado Springs is thankful for you taking the opportunity to come assess our disaster area. This community has always been the leader in innovative firefighting techniques which have saved countless lives and property. Our police personnel have kept order, protected homes, also while still servicing the entire City. Our County and other surrounding partners including Forestry, have stepped up to share services, work together, and offer support. Lastly, our citizens have rallied together in hope, and grief. So many have been generous in their giving. Please let the rest of the state know how tremendous Community is here in Colorado Springs and how thankful we are for the support in state and out.

Hopefully, there will be an industrious and creative individual create a photo journal with text dedicated to the way the community rallied in a time of crisis. Everything from the inter-agency cooperation, the private sector fundraising in so many varied forms – - and that somehow, out of tragedy, the story of how well this community came together will get to the national news outlets and morning shows!
One very interesting aspect of this was the decision to totally exclude all county commissioners from having contact with the President of the United States – - either as part of the greeting ceremony or as part of the entourage touring the impacted areas.
With their views and statements, they could be considered a threat to the Presidents well being. Let’s be honest nobody really wants contacts with these integrity an ethical challenged people.

We have seemingly lost the right to hold opposing political views and do so with a minimum level of civility and respect. Just the comments in the “open letter” on the Amy Lathen campaign re-election website would stir up sufficient concern with the Secret Service to keep her out of range!
