The city of Colorado Springs’ sales tax collections from medical marijuana businesses totaled a record high of $112,132 in September, an increase of 51.7 percent from a year ago, according to figures released Thursday.
The collections for September account for nearly $4.5 million in sales.
Year-to-date collections account for nearly $28 million in sales.
What ? Did more people get sick, or did the economy suddenly improve for those folks who cannot afford healthcare?
can we say Colorado Springs Cash COW.
Daniel Chacon, you get just a little more unprofessional every time you blog. What are you doing? Just be a reporter and stop trying to be all cutsie. It’s annoying.
I forwarded some of your articles to a reporter friend that i grew up with back in ohio, and he actually passed them around the newsroom.
They were laughing at you, not with you. Seriously man, you are going to lose your job if you don’t start being a real reporter soon. The new boss will not keep you.
If amendment “64″ is passed one must think about the taxes it will pull in for all cities and the state. I know there are those that oppose “64″, but they need to understand the ramification if “64″ passes: (1) Drug dealers of MJ would be put out of business, (2) less criminal activities, (3) As one can see by Chacons’ article that the sales tax would benefit the cities and state.
I am a supporter of amendment “64″ and I am requesting of you to vote for the amendment with a “YES”.
Decriminalizing a criminal activity changes nothing other than classification. It’s still the same activity. Too much weed and not enough oxygen in the air makes people silly.
What is the word “criminal” used for other than classifying an activity? I agree with the logic that regardless of the classification an activity remains the same activity as before, but urge you to do your research, too. Use of this herb predates the domestication of the horse, bro. What do you think the first horse reigns were made of? Cotton? LOL. I suppose my point is this: classification of marijuana as a dangerous plant is a NEW phenomenon. Do not let 75 short years of prohibition and propaganda detract from MILLENIA upon MILLENIA of human history spent utilizing one of humanity’s most wonderful resources. To do so would be quite silly.

Cannabis is a resource which should only be afforded to the adults, and then in moderation – very similar to the respect paid to alcohol-
it has its place, and that place is NOT everywhere-
NOT every time-
but, there are times and places where there is no reason for it to be disallowed.
Beyond that, many municipalities are facing financial burdens and risking bankruptcy- the tax revenue generated by a commodity whose market will not go away needs to be channeled into our society for the good of our people, and not funneled into illicit gangs and cartels which add nothing to our society.
Look at what Colorado has gained from its taxation.
