Colorado Springs Utilities CEO Jerry Forte wants Mayor Steve Bach to reserve any more questions about the Martin Drake Power Plant for a decommissioning study.
“From both a limited staff perspective and to best honor the study initiative, it would be best if any further questions were vetted as part of the study,” Forte said Saturday in an email to the mayor.
“Adding your voice to the scope and depth of the study would be very helpful in reaching a decision that is best for and can be supported by the community at large, both today and into the future,” Forte said.
The email included answers to a long list of questions that Bach had posed to Forte about the Drake power plant and other Utilities power facilities on Dec. 17.
Bach gave Forte a Christmas Eve deadline to answer the questions. Forte told the mayor he needed more time and delivered his responses to Bach via email on Saturday.
Utilities posted the answers on its website “so that our customers can see the information and stay up to date on energy issues that are affecting the community,” spokesman Dave Grossman said Monday.
Forte told the mayor that answering his questions required “certain assumptions” for current and potential environmental regulations and risk mitigation/generation ownership practices, among others.
I believe this the politically correct way of saying, You are not the boss of me.
Sounds like sound business practice. Maybe he can give the mayor lessons in correct procedure — someone needs to.

Bach could care less what the report will say. He wants to destroy utilities for his developer buddies. That is his and melchers agenda. Great job Mr. Forte, yours is the voice of true reason.
Bach is totally outclassed by Forte. Yes, Forte would make a good mayor, but he can’t afford the salary cut…

You can’t predict future purchase power costs OR the availability and cost of transmission to get that energy here. You don’t decide to shut down units and buy from the market based on local generation costs in the short term. Sometimes you are better off owning your own generation even if it costs more once in a while. Remember that we don’t have rolling outages like your buddies at Excel do. This guy is going to bankrupt all of us!!! When is the next Mayoral vote???

Bach needs to get the message-BUTT OUT of utilities business! I am completely behind Jerry Forte. He does HIS job.

A well worked and professional reply from Forte to someone who clearly shows a clear lack of professionalism and a lack of an open mind.
With all due respect, Mayor Bach along with his developer councilman buddies are trying to close Drake for one reason only…..a land grab as the councilman referenced to owns the property surrounding Drake. They think the voters are stupid, we really don’t have to wait for Bach’s term to end, recalls happen.
