A retail liquor store that has racked up four liquor code violations in the past 2 ½ years was ordered Friday to serve an immediate 48-day suspension of its liquor license.

Colorado Springs’ Liquor and Beer Licensing Board unanimously approved the suspension of Cheyenne Trails Liquors’ liquor license.

The latest violation — selling alcohol to an underage confidential informant — happened in September.

“Maybe they should be selling popsicles and candy rather than alcohol,” liquor board member Dawn Lloyd said.

Mayoral, council candidates take on medical marijuana tonight

March 21st, 2011, 9:23 am by

Two mayoral hopefuls and 10 City Council candidates are scheduled to speak tonight at the Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Council‘s monthly networking event.

“Candidates will have a chance to speak about their campaign goals, and of course, the hot topic of medical marijuana in Colorado Springs,” Jessica Hogan, the council’s spokeswoman, said in an e-mail.

The event, which starts at 6:30 p.m., is at the Warehouse Restaurant and Gallery, 25 W. Cimarron.

It’s free and open to the public.

The two mayoral candidates scheduled to attend are Councilman Tom Gallagher, who spearheaded a medical marijuana task force along with Councilman Sean Paige, and businessman Richard Skorman.

The council candidates scheduled to attend are Paige, David Jensen, Michael Merrifield, Tony Carpenter, Dawn Lloyd and the so-called Reform Team: Ed Bircham, Douglas Bruce, Richard Bruce, Helen Collins and Gretchen Kasameyer.

“We invited everyone, so  hopefully more will attend tonight,” Hogan said.

Council candidate claims ‘military experience’ despite having none

March 3rd, 2011, 11:38 am by

City Council candidate Dawn Lloyd claimed in an online voter guide that she has military experience because her husband – who is actually her ex-husband – was in the military.

But then she realized the information was “wrong” and requested an immediate change.

Lloyd, who serves on the city’s liquor board, sent The Gazette an e-mail last night asking that her response under “military experience” be changed to “none.”

“PLEASE! Delete the military info on my profile immediately. It is wrong,” Lloyd wrote. “I don’t want to be misleading to the public. I was trying to point out that I had been affiliated with the military as a spouse of 19 years.”

Lloyd also clarified that she is no longer married to John Michael Lahoff, a retired lieutenant colonel.

“OOPS!” she wrote. “My current husband might think I’m a bigamist, HA HA.”

There’s more.

This morning, Lloyd requested that her response under “military experience” be changed yet again.

“Here is what I would like to communicate in the military section of my candidate profile,” she wrote.

“I was married to an Air Force Officer /Air Force Academy graduate (Lt Col Retired, John Michael Lahoff) from 1980-1999.  We moved to Colorado Springs in 1993 for an assignment with Space Command at Peterson AFB.  I know the military lifestyle from the perspective of a spouse. Our family experienced 11 assignments over a 19 year period, including 2 overseas.”
